Duff's Cakemix
Beverly Grove, Ages 1+
Kathryn Eisman: One of our favorite spots is Duff's Cakemix because it combines two of our great loves—being creative and eating cake! We usually pick the hot pink fondant covered cake and go to town decorating it with everything from edible glitter and sour worms to butterflies and leaves cut out out of a rainbow of fondant colors. Once we're done, we bring it to school for Capri's class to enjoy (and so we don't end up eating it all ourselves). It's a colorful, sensory rich, creative, not to mention delicious way to spend a couple of hours.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Mid-Wilshire, All ages
KE: When Capri was little we signed her up for LACMA’s youth membership, which is free and allows her to bring an adult along with her. Sometimes we'll run through the lamp post art installation, other times we'll use watercolor paints in the kids art room, or we walk around and take in the mix of contemporary and modern art. It's a fun way to introduce art into their lives and share a cultural experience that's also playful and interactive.
Los Angeles Zoo
Griffith Park, All ages
KE: If I have a day with Capri and feel like getting in a little (read: a lot) or exercise, this is the place we go. Make sure to bring a stroller as there's lots of walking involved and carrying a toddler would not be ideal. We usually start in "Africa" then head over the the "Australian" animals section. I love exposing Capri to all sorts of animals and explaining how they live, what they eat so she grows up having compassion and love for all living creatures.
The Grove
Fairfax, All ages
KE: I call this Disneyland for Adults because it's just as enjoyable for my husband and me as it is for Capri. We might take a ride on the trolley, or head into Pottery Barn Kids to play with their gorgeous displays. Then we'll have an early dinner at Blue Ribbon Sushi or french macaroons at Laduree before heading into the movies to see Beauty and the Beast or another family movie.
Pan Pacific Park
Fairfax, All ages
KE: Capri has been going here since she was a baby. I love how it's a cultural melting pot of people from all over the world so Capri can meet kids from all cultures and backgrounds. The kids play area is ideal for burning off her energy and teaching her how to rock climb or kick a soccer ball on the grass.
Beverly Hills Farmers Market
Beverly Hills, All ages
KE: On Sunday mornings, this is the ideal place to pick up some locally sourced, organically grown fruit and veggies. There's often a band, which Capri loves dancing to and putting a few dollars in their "tip hat", and we never leave without a horse ride and time in the petting zoo where she snuggles some bunnies and feeds the goats.
Kreation Organic Kafe
Multiple locations, All ages
KE: As much as Capri has inherited my sweet tooth (oops!), we've also made sure she's grown up loving the taste of healthy, clean food. Kreation has the most delicious cold pressed juices and smoothies and bowls that taste like dessert but are packed with nutrients and vitamins. We make sure we visit at least once a week.
ABC's of Dance
West Hollywood, Ages 3+
KE: Capri loves ballet and considers herself professional at this stage! We've been coming to this adorable, family-run business since she was a baby and it's wonderful to see her growing up loving music and dance and creative movement as a result.
Au Fudge
West Hollywood, Ages 3+
KE: If you want a meal that's kid friendly and still a little fancy, this is your place. I'm obsessed with their vegan salad, and Capri loves the organic goodies on the menu, plus there's a kids play area if she wants to run around and hang out while my hubby and I have a mimosa.
