Its broad shingle beach is backed by amusement arcades and Regency-era buildings. Brighton Pier, in the central waterfront section, opened in 1899 and now has rides and food kiosks. The town is also known for its nightlife, arts scene, shopping and festivals.

Great Escapes: Burning the Clocks - Brighton

December 21 marks the winter solstice for the Northern Hemisphere, AKA the shortest and darkest day of the year. In order to combat the gloom, Brighton, England, celebrates with a very unique festival of lights which culminates in a giant bonfire. Lucky for us, filmmaker Ben Cox of Gnarled Apple Productions got a chance to witness this community's way of saying goodbye to the past year.
