Cut it out with those adult coloring books, Los Angeles. Right now, people all over the world are snooping around Silver Lake on Google Earth just to get a feel for the place, and you’re sitting at the kitchen table coloring in Mandalas? Put some pants on and go stare at some art, eat some sausages or see if BDSM is really right for you. It’s all happening.

Purple Rain on the Silver Screen
Just because it’s been a month since our beloved Purple One floated on doesn’t mean we’re accustomed to his absence. Fortunately, on Thursday, the Wiltern is hosting two screenings of Purple Rain so we can come together and revel in Prince’s powers. And even better, it’s free—as it should be. Be sure to RSVP, and then admission will be first-come, first served. Arrive early and bring a good shoulder that will accept your tears.
Deets: The Wiltern; Screenings at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Free with RSVP

DomCon
It’s the weekend our friends with fetishes have all been waiting for—DomCon is upon us! Whether you’re a Dom or a Sub, or you don’t know what that means (Domino’s and Subway?), this weekend’s DomCon is now celebrating its 13th year. The World’s Premier Professional and Lifestyle Domination Convention seeks to educate the greater public about BDSM and to unite those in the BDSM, leather, and fetish communities to celebrate sexuality and promote awareness through demonstrations, seminars and panels. Put on some leather and live a little.

Bingo for Badasses
This isn’t your standard retirement home bingo, boys and girls. Rebel Bingo is a “very intense and emotional style of bingo” that has more traditional players’ panties in a bunch. Essentially, Rebel Bingo is like going clubbing, but instead of regrettable DFMOs (OK those still might happen), you pop bottles as Burlesque dancers call out numbers while you dance and make merry, but also get really competitive. If you get BINGO, you’ve got to rush the stage. Prizes are legit, like bicycles and sound systems. Need we say more.
Deets: DTLA (location revealed when you purchase tickets); 2 shows: 7 p.m. / 9:30 p.m.; Tickets start at $14 pp, buy tickets HERE.

Black is Beautiful
Cherry and Martin gallery will be presenting the first solo exhibition of American photographer Kwame Brathwaite, titled, Black is Beautiful: Empowerment Through the Lens of Kwame Brathwaite. The photographs are intended to display the intersectionality of art, politics and culture and the impact of photography as an agent for social change. In the 50s and 60s, Brathwaite was a major force in popularizing the term “Black is Beautiful,”—one of the most important social statements of the 20th-century. The photographs depicting black culture in the 60s will be on display through the end of July, but don’t miss out on a conversation between Kwame Brathwaite himself and gallerist Phillip Martin on Saturday evening.
Deets: Cherry and Martin gallery; 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. (convo with artist) / 6 p.m. - 8 p.m (opening party); Free.
