Photographer and photojournalist Allan Tannenbaum’s latest published work is all about the 70s in New York City. With a foreword by Blondie herself, Grit and Glamour reflects on the era of disco, rock 'n roll, punk, new wave, funk, reggae, and soul with some high fashion thrown into the mix. You won’t want to miss the opening reception where you can view the stunning images at large or get your hands on a hand signed copy of the book.

Guided Tour of Tom of Finland’s abode
Touko Valio Laaksonen, best known as Tom of Finland, is heralded as the most important gay graphic artist of the 20th century. He certainly knew how to sketch a sturdy rock hard … er, pectoral muscle. Pay the Echo Park craftsman house that he called home a visit and experience his work—once considered pornography—up close and personal. Special shoutout to the The Tom of Finland Foundation, which seeks to preserve his work and serves as an international safe haven for homoerotic art.

The Music Center opens its door after hours on Friday for Sleepless, a surreal escape filled with DJ’s, multi-media installations, chill out lounges, dancing and even a snowfall curtain. There will also be live retellings of some epic tales like Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, Twains’ A Ghost Story or Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Adam Schoenberg’s Scatter with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra
After this grueling presidential race, we can find solace and escape in the classics. This weekend, French conductor Alexandre Bloch (Düsseldorf Symphoniker) debuts with the LA Chamber Orchestra for the west coast premiere of Adam Schoenberg’s Scatter, a triple concerto written for (and featuring) “genre-defying” New Yorkers, PROJECT Trio. For the Mozart and Mendelssohn fans out there, the program also includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, Prague and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, Scottish.

Christmas at The Grove with Seth MacFarlane
The Father of Family Guy will be singing live at Rick Caruso’s wonderland for an early Christmas celebration. Glee’s Lea Michele and Fight Song’s Rachel Platten will also be on hand, equipped with a 70-piece orchestra. Better yet, you can partake in the Grove’s first snowfall, the lighting of the 100-foot christmas tree, some Santa Claus canoodling and fireworks.
