Where: Los Angeles
What: Dog-Friendly PlaceList
Who: Lover of all doggos, furbees and nuggets, Kelsie Macray is the founder of
Beast and Babe, a bohemian chic lifestyle brand that specializes in dog goods. The company first came to fruition four years ago when Kelsie fell head-over-heels with a certain fabric at the flea market and transformed it into a leash for her four-legged boyfriend, Yogi. Thrilled with the final product, she made the executive decision to share her designs with the world. Now, you can spot dogs all over the globe rocking her designs. With dogs always on her mind, we caught up with Kelsie and Yogi to find out some of the best dog friendly places in the city.
"Dogs are a little like kids. Usually you enjoy them less if they are screaming hysterically and peeing on your backpack.” —Beast and Babe Founder Kelsie Macray
Leo Carrillo State Beach
Malibu
Kelsie Macray: LA's lack of dog beaches kind of sucks, but Leo Carillo State Beach basically fills the void. It's a bit of a hike, but a great day trip if you want to go kick it for a while.
Deus Ex Machina
Venice
KM: We get high on cold brew and motorcycle fumes here on the regular. Great outdoor seating, my go-to coffee shop with Yogi.
Corner of 27th and Speedway
Venice
KM: Since you can't bring dogs to the beach in Venice, you can loiter on the grass north of Venice Pier while eating snacks from Erewhon and coloring.
Bruno's Dog & Cat Boutique
Venice
KM: Yogi goes pretty hard on the dog treats at this neighborhood pet store. Also, Healthy Spot throws some pretty fun dog meets up we've been known to sniff at.
Paseo Miramar, Temescal Canyon and Los Liones Canyon Trail
Pacific Palisades
KM: Yogi and I hike Temescal and Malibu a couple days a week because it's so beautiful, airy and feels far away from LA.
Venice Ale House
Venice
KM: Our favorite happy hour place is Venice Ale House. It's a great hub for tourists and Venice locals alike. Additionally, there's a lovely dog-friendly patio to watch sunsets.
The Daily Dose, Inc.
DTLA
KM: Our errand runs downtown usually require a caffeine fix from our go-to spot Daily Dose because we're pretty fragile Westsiders. They have a wonderful little side alley nook that gives you a reprieve from all the downtown bustle.
Big Bear
KM: My mom lives in Big Bear and it’s definitely Yogi's favorite weekend getaway. It has loads of great trails, smells and of course a lake to splash in if you're a dog. Also, there's a great dog-friendly beach bar there called the Boathouse Tavern. Imagine a dog-park on the water where you can drink beer.
