El Bulli alum José Andrés helped pioneer the molecular gastronomy movement on the West Coast when he opened Bazaar at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills in late 2008. But while Bazaar is a large-scale, down-the-rabbit-hole-type experience, Andrés has been slow to bring an intimate, chef’s counter-style concept to LA. To that end, Andrés and chef Aitor Zabala have debuted Somni: a 10-seat, 20-course, $235-a-head tasting menu. Los Angeles is in the middle of a high-end dining boom (hear that, Michelin?) and Somni is one addition not to be missed.
