It’s no secret that Los Angeles is undergoing a creative renaissance. Ever since Hedi Slimane, creative director of Saint Laurent moved the brand’s design studio from Paris to Rodeo Drive in 2014, people’s perceptions have been shifting to recognize Los Angeles as another epicenter of fashion, rather than the land of bikinis and flip flops. New Yorker Josh Peskowitz recently opened his flagship men’s store,
Magasin, here at
Platform in Culver City, but it’s not just New Yorkers and Parisians in fashion coming to LA ... it’s designers from Italy, Tokyo and beyond.
Meet Brooke Taylor Corcia, who left her job in Montreal to launch The Dreslyn, an LA-based online lifestyle boutique, with her husband Daniel Corcia and brother Brandon Taylor. After stints as an advertising assistant at Glamour mag and an associate editor at C Magazine, Brooke moved to Montreal to become senior womenswear buyer for SSENSE, Canada’s largest online retailer, and now she’s making serious waves with her own online fashion shop.
Incorporating edgy rock chick and self-assured Parisian femme alongside the laid-back inspirations drawn of Australian fashion, Brooke is adamant that The Dreslyn be a pioneer in an oversaturated online world. The Dreslyn is the first retailer to offer social media sharing of every item on their website and also offers same-day messenger service to get you an outfit in time for that last minute Bumble date. They’ve also integrated some seriously sexy home goods so you’ll be able to grab a stoneware tagine set with your savannah romper.
Now that you don’t need to traipse all over town to sort out your fall wardrobe, we sought you some on-trend advice to prepare you for a shopping spree on The Dreslyn. With a mantra of always putting “style before fashion”, Brooke elucidates which LA-based brands you should be shopping right now, all available on her site:
