Los Angeles Zoo
Griffith Park, All ages
Marisa Runyon: Our family membership to the LA Zoo has been literally worth every penny! We live in Toluca Lake, so we can get to the zoo in less than 10 minutes—it's the perfect outing for a Saturday morning. Since we're members, we can pop over there for an hour or two anytime we want to get the kids out and about.
The Americana at Brand
Glendale, All ages
MR: The Americana is another super easy place to take the kids when we just want to be outside. We grab a bite to eat (we're loving the The Pie Hole!) and let Stella run in the grass. It's also perfectly magical there at Christmas time.
Point Dume State Beach
Malibu, All ages
MR: Point Dume is easily our favorite beach in LA. Jonathan proposed to me there 10 years ago so it's full of happy memories for us. We go there anytime of the year to sit by the ocean, have a picnic or grab a drink at The Sunset.
Cascabel
Toluca Lake, All ages
MR: When this Mexican / Nuevo Latino restaurant opened in our neighborhood, we were so excited we went there for dinner on opening night. It's a total gem—charming, laidback ambiance (it's in an old house that's been converted into the restaurant) and the food is exceptional. It's our go-to place for a "nice" dinner out with the kids since we can walk there, and they are super accommodating for children.
Underwood Family Farms
Moorpark, All ages
MR: Not too far of a drive, Underwood Farms is the place to go to feel like you're a million miles from the craziness of LA. It's most popular to visit in the fall when they have their fall festival, but also wonderful in the spring and summer—you can pick your own produce right out of the fields. Now that my daughter is big enough, I can't wait to take her to strawberry picking this summer.
Pub at Golden Road Brewing
Atwater Village, Ages 1+
MR: This casual restaurant is loud, unfussy and fun—the perfect place to have lunch with toddlers. They also have an area with games that obviously used to be for day-drinking adults but has been pleasantly taken over by hipster babies.
